An increasingly sought-after outdoor adventure social club that was once unique to popular destinations in Colorado is officially stepping out of state and putting roots down in the popular Lake Tahoe-area town of Truckee, California.
Gravity Haus, the 2,000-plus-member outdoorsy brainchild of Denver couple Jim and Alicia Deters, recently announced the acquisition of Truckee’s Cedar House Sport Hotel, making it the first non-Colorado location on a destination list that includes Denver, Vail, Winter Park, and Breckenridge, Colorado.
The aptly renamed Gravity Haus Truckee-Tahoe, which is tentatively scheduled for a summer 2022 opening, will endeavor to build on the organization’s reputation as a play-and-stay haven that provides members a wealth of adventure opportunities, outdoor gear, fitness programs, co-working spaces, community events, personal growth initiatives, food and drink options, and much more.
Its attractive northern California site, just 35 minutes from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport and three hours from the Bay Area, made the decision to expand to Truckee an easy one, CEO Jim Deters says in a press release.
“While Cedar House has been a partner hotel, feedback from our members and guests made it clear the Truckee location would be an ideal property and community to expand beyond Colorado,” Deters adds. “Not only is Gravity Haus reinventing how people live and work enabling an active and healthy lifestyle, we are defining a new model of hospitality based upon inclusivity, community and conscious consumerism.”

Gravity Haus will be soon begin rolling out a property improvement plan, a company spokesperson tells Sunset, designed to incorporate features unique to its other locations, such as an Unravel Coffee shop, a signature dining experience tailored for health and sustainability, a StarterHaus co-workspace, and a Dryland Fitness center.
New features aside, the company announced it will keep the current Cedar House team and onsite restaurant, Stella, in place.
“We are excited to work with the local community as a partner in promoting sustainable tourism and an active healthy lifestyle,” Deters says.
Until its rebranding is complete, preexisting reservations will continue to be honored and future stays can be booked through the Cedar House Sport Hotel website. Gravity Haus members—four tiers of memberships begin at $70 per month—are immediately eligible for discounts on stays and dining options.
